Northern Nipmuck Volunteer

Bruce and I volunteered today for the Northern Nimpuck Trail Race, satisfying one of the qualifications for entry into the VT100 Endurance Race. We had a great time and enjoyed being on the other side of the table. A big thanks to Jim C. for letting us work at his race.

Bruce started off the race by identifying to each runner, which drinks were the gatorade, water and soda. I said "Bruce, you're gonna drive me nuts if you say this to every runner in the race. They know the difference between water and gatorade." So he stopped. Shortly after, a runner came through, grabbed a drink and then quickly spewed it out saying "That's not gatorade!" She got it mixed up with the mt. dew. Bruce just looked at me, "See." Ha ha...

The aid station was on a dirt road that saw a few cars during the race. Coincidentally it seemed the cars passed by when there were no runners at our station. So to those who didn't know a race was going on, it looked like Bruce and I were out in the middle of the woods selling lemonade. Apparently we never learned about "location, location, location."

Thanks for the snacks guys - you ran a nice well organized aid station, in/out with no fuss. Special thanks to Bruce for bringing the Mtn Dews for me. But since the regular fare included dew already, it was quicker just to take the cups...

PS - Did you note my bib number today? I think its a sign.....

I usually toss these things as soon as I get home, but I think I'll post this one next to my computer for the next 23 weeks...

also - I was so focused on getting water/dew when I came through I didn't even notice the snacks - looking at your photos I was thinking they would have been pretty tasty to have today - I need to slow down slightly and make sure to make full use of everything on offer at aid stations. In O we basically just have water jugs in the woods - none of the fancy trail racing fare to choose from... :-)

I love volunteering for the tough races. Such inspiration and I don't feel that jealous either! NO Northern Nipmuck for me today, saving myself for Soapstone in May

Thanks for all of the help at the aid station. All of the volunteers were great. It wasn't warm for us, and you were just standing there.

Thanks for being out there in the cold rain! Sorry about the big spill. You were very wise to keep the food seperated from the drinks :)
